I was glad to see that the Cook County Board renewed the News- Herald as the county’s official newspaper.
There was earlier discussion among some county officials that the News-Herald should somehow be punished for publishing views and opinions that they disagreed with. However, disagreement with a writer of an article, a letter, or a column is not a proper criterion for selecting the county’s “legal” newspaper.
The auditor-treasurer also suggested last month that some money could be saved by posting legal notices on the county website. I hope that never happens. The county website is a technical mess with pop up and drop down menus that do not go away and which obscure the information one is trying to read. The layout is very confusing to the average person.
Kudos to the county board for continuing to make public information easier to access.
