We have an important election accepting ballots now, with about three weeks to go, it is decision time. Two qualified candidates, but two different visions. I can appreciate Bob Svalesons’ interest and experience, I too moved into the county and got involved, but I did not jump directly to the top, I spent several years immersing myself in a variety of volunteer efforts including the Highway 61 project, a variety of health projects, Safe Routes to School, land use planning and Soil & Water Conservation among them but I am a novice still about the county needs, still my 10 years is five times Bob´s experience, I wish for him to learn more.
Paula Marie Powell has several advantages that impress me, and they have little to do with her native stature. But her lifetime experience of community activity, her multiple experiences with Cook County infrastructure and her engagement with Cook County business, she knows us, she knows what we need, and she knows how to talk to us.
The other part, and I say this with 60 years of public service activity; she presents us with the interest of a younger generation. I intend to keep contributing but I am seeing a need to bring new, energetic, interested and involved younger people into the mix, we need new energy and new ideas, Paula has both, coupled with her backstory she offers what we desperately need to move forward. I would plead you to vote for her, and I would plead for Bob to join me in offering whatever talents to contribute to help her achieve an enormous success to our county and our district.
