I’m quite sure Garry Gamble is a decent and intelligent man. That said, there is a reason that Garry Gamble lost his bid to be reelected. The voters rightly recognized that, despite his verbosity and attempts to dominate the conversation, his ideas and proposed solutions to problems were not in the best interests of Cook County and its residents. Nothing in Mr. Gamble’s recent ramblings has changed except for the platform and apparent support he now has, thanks to the News-Herald.
I fully support the right of editors to express opinion on the editorial page. I do expect, however, that editors and owners will be upfront and transparent in such opinion sharing and not hide behind the one-sided opinions and deceptive verbiage of a single writer.
If the News-Herald truly seeks to inform its readers of the facts regarding county issues (including budget issues), then it should present a fair, factual and balanced exploration of the issues. To date, they have not done so. The residents of Cook County deserve nothing less and, if it is not the intent of the News-Herald to provide such, the residents of Cook County deserve to know the reasons why.
