It appears Mr. Hiniker did not understand the point of my letter he mischaracterizes. Social Justice (sic) is a leftist approach to increased governmental control over our lives. My concern is that the school promotes indoctrination rather than education. Presentations made by “activists” regarding various highly controversial political issues, without contrary representations, can only be viewed as an exercise in propaganda. Tragically, this trend is now in full bloom nationally. Simply put, our children are being reduced to nothing more than political props, and so-doing is fully supported by the National Education Association. A brief review of their website will erase any doubts about the veracity of this statement.
I fully endorse the full and forthright discussion of any issue in our schools, provided that when the subjects involved are controversial or political in nature a full spectrum of relevant views is included. Failing in this regard only cheats our children of the opportunity of learning how to think, and substitutes indoctrination of what to think. What is happening in the schools is not education, but a form of child abuse. Parents, regardless of their political leanings, should be enraged.
