Writer frowns on athletes who take a knee

I normally enjoy reading this segment of the CCNH but this week I was troubled and take issue with some of the comments the pastor of the month gave. I found his comments on being thankful for athletes “who risk their careers by taking a knee” as something I for one am not thankful for.

The whole taking a knee as a form of protest by mostly African Americans due to feeling discriminatory practices by law enforcement is wrong and insulting. The flag is a symbol of American freedom, freedom we as U.S. citizens enjoy because of the selfless sacrifice our men and women serving our country make each day.

The national anthem is our country’s public expression of the pride we take in recognizing and honoring our armed forces. There are proactive and beneficial methods in voicing concerns of fair treatment by the police but being thankful they are willing to take a knee is not one of them.
