There is an excellent field of diverse, thoughtful and skilled fellow citizens seeking the District 2 position on the Cook County Board of Commissioners. After four years’ observation, close attention to candidates’ published positions and the recent WTIP candidate forum addressing well over a dozen vital issues, I’m quite encouraged — and will vote for incumbent Myron Bursheim as the wise choice for our district.
Commissioner Bursheim has occupied earned leadership positions on the Board through his thoughtful weighing of potentially fractious issues and attendance at innumerable committee and community meetings. He has navigated the turbulent periods of Board function with calm and respect. Personnel changes, vacation rentals taxation policy, economic expansion initiatives, complex sovereignty concerns, and diverse community interests have all benefitted from his calm voice, backed up by dogged persistence and a reliable presence. His advocacy for justice and seniors serves as a community model; his work on education, workforce housing and legislative communications puts us all in a better position going forward toward inevitable post-Covid challenges to economic sustainability, equitable housing and healthcare, and accommodating the pressures of tourism and domestic balance.
Myron has a very long tenure and invested history here. I know him personally only as a fellow-aerobic elder down at the YMCA. My take on his board record, his policy stance and community investment comes entirely from listening and observing his noteworthy public record — and that is as it should be. Please lend your support as well to Myron Bursheim for re-election to the Cook County Board from District 2.
