Writer answers Nuthatch question

According to Ernest A. Choate’s book “American Bird Names” (Combit Books, copywrite 1973, Library of Congress 78-144340) the hatch in Nuthatch comes from “Hack,” which the bird does to a nut to open it.

This book is out of print, but our friends at Drury Lane Books in Grand Marais did a computer search and found a used copy for me. I have no computer so I can’t get a hold of “Bill from Lutsen.” Could you pass this on to him?

Steve Steinhagen,
Lutsen
