The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic is inviting employers in Cook County to apply to participate in a workplace wellness collaborative.
This no-cost initiative is designed to create “cultures of health” that support healthy behaviors at work. The initiative is funded through the Statewide Health Improvement Program (SHIP), Minnesota Department of Health.
In the initiative, which will be for one year starting in November 2016, employers will learn about proven practices that can help organizations support a culture of wellness in the workplace by making the healthy choice the easy choice. These strategies will both encourage and engage their workers in behaviors which will have a positive effect on their health.
Employers will learn about strategies to support breastfeeding mothers and help employees eat healthier, get more physical activity and decrease commercial tobacco use. Examples of strategies include adding bicycle parking, changing to healthier vending options, providing a lactation room, and adoption of a tobacco-free worksite policy.
The collaborative, which is open to employers with any number of employees and requires little or no financial resources from participating employers, can lead to increased worker productivity, improved morale and lower healthcare costs. Employers will need to provide staff time for planning and implementation. The Sawtooth Mountain Clinic, with support from SHIP, will provide one year of free consultation and the necessary tools and technical assistance for participating employers.
To apply or learn more about the collaborative, contact Hartley Newell- Acero at 218-387- 2330 or Hartley@sawtoothmountainclinic.org.
Application deadline is Sept. 30.
