Housing in Cook County has been a hot button issue for years, one that I find myself frequently discussing as a working age individual trying to see a future for myself and my peers in Grand Marais. One could easily fill a page going over and over the causes, effects, and the potential villains. But for the first time I actually see a glimmer of hope on the horizon.
Boreal and the News Herald have been publishing conversations with Cook County Housing and Redevelopment Authority Director, Jason Hale. It is a pleasure to see some concrete plans being set forward by someone with no conflicting interests and a wealth of professional experience. It looks like we have a competent outline of implementation for both short term and long term solutions, shared with the interest of keeping the community abreast of developments. It’s refreshing to see some solutions come nearer to fruition.
I want to commend Hale for his excellent communication, and the entire HRA for their hard work. I know it seems bleak right now, but there is work being done. Affordable housing is just one part of the cost of living spiral that is working against every stakeholder in the Cook County Community. Thank you to the HRA for their dedication. I hope to see opportunities for my peers to stay, work, settle and live happily in Cook County in the near future.
