Part of the busy summer of road repairs and construction in Cook County includes reconstruction of a section of County Road 8, the Devil Track Road. Work began on Wednesday, June 6, beginning from a half mile south of County Road 18, the South Shore Drive to the Airport Road.
The contractor, KGM Contractors, Inc. of Angora, MN, will begin by clearing and grubbing the area and replacing culverts. On Monday, July 11, KGM plans to start milling off the existing blacktop, with grading operations tentatively scheduled to begin Wednesday, July 13. Work is expected to continue through mid-October.
A construction speed limit of 35 mph is in effect for the project area, said County Engineer Dave Betts. He reminded motorists that fines double in construction work zones.
The work commencing constitutes phase one of a two-phase reconstruction plan for County Road 8. The second phase, which runs from the Airport Road to Ball Club Road, is tentatively slated for 2012.
