As I sit back and evaluate the July 2 alumni football game, may I first say excellent job to the two individuals responsible for the game happening at all, Kyler Hawkins-Hawsen (I wish it was VanDoren), and his lovely wife (my daughter-in-law) Kelly Senty. If it wasn’t for those two, this couldn’t have come to fruition.
Most of us started playing rough touch football Sunday afternoons 3:00-5:00 p.m. in May. It was enjoyable to laugh, joke, and spend time with fellow men that enjoy the game and the camaradierie. By the time July 2nd rolled around I think everyone was as ready as they were going to be.
For me it seemed after the first series of plays, the butterflies were gone. Never in my wildest dreams did I believe I would have that much fun. It’s been 34 years since I put a uniform on and I was still just as excited and giddy to play. The game went well and no one got hurt. That was the plan all along.
The players that I was already friends with became better friends and acquaintances became friends. To all of you that played, especially to my sons on the field, it was an honor and a privilege to share the field of battle with you all.
