“Woods, Winds, Strings, and a Little Jazz” concert on the Gunflint Trail

Now an annual event, the “Woods, Winds, Strings and a Little Jazz” concert is set to be held Sunday, Aug. 12 at 5 p.m. at the Gunflint Trail Fire Hall 1 mid-Trail.

This informal event promises to be a wonderful experience for the audience, as the musicians are outstanding, and they enjoy performing.

Among the performers are Phylis Anderson (oboe), Kathy Bolstad (clarinet), Sue Anderson (violin), Fred Anderson (guitar), Hugh and Nancy Magill (vocal and piano), Michael Ferguson (piano); SVEA, (women’s ensemble singing Swedish folk music) Rose Arrowsmith DeCoux, Erika Ternes, and Yvonne Mills; the Borealis Brass Quartet is Eric Anderson (euphonium), Don Grant (trumpet), David Coleman, (trombone), and Robert Reed (trumpet); Sky Blue Jazz Ensemble: Mike DeBevec (piano), Mike Roth (string bass), Erik Hahn (sax), Thomas Stamps (percussion, vocal), and Karina Roth, vocal; The Third Stream Ensemble: Eric Anderson (composer), and members of the Sky Blue Jazz Ensemble performing an original composition. There will be additional musicians taking part in the concert.

A reception will be held at the intermission, with additional time to talk with the artists after the concert.

Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $5 for youth 5-18, and children under 5 are free. This is an event for the entire family. The concert proceeds, and after expenses, goes to the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department for the new ambulance.
