Bach, Irving Berlin, Poulenc, Gershwin, Elgar, Faure, Chick Corea, plus our own Fred Anderson, Eric Anderson, Mike DeBevec, and music of many other composers was celebrated in the resonant cold storage building of Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department, Mid Trail station.

The day was hot, but the big doors were open for a gentle breeze, and people could sip ice water while listening to the performance. The building was filled to capacity and the artists, almost all local musicians, gave their best offering to an enthusiastic audience. SVEA, the vocal ensemble, presented Swedish Folk Music, sung in Swedish, several instrumental ensembles, and soloists also performed.

Amelia and Greta Roth sang Irving Berlin’s “Sisters,” with great style and skill, to the delight of the audience. The concert started quietly with Fred Anderson playing two of his own compositions, plus one more piece, on acoustic guitar, and it ended quietly with oboist Philis Anderson playing an arrangement of “On Eagle’s Wings.” Really, a wonderful afternoon of musical gifts!

Many thanks to the musicians who performed, to the Gunflint Trail Volunteer Fire Department for transforming the storage building into a concert hall, to the behind-the-scenes people who organized the concert, sold tickets, sent out publicity notices, set up and served refreshments, and to the audience who came out on a hot sunny afternoon to listen.

Thank you to WTIP for recording this concert to be broadcast at a later date. This was the sixth annual concert, and we hope to continue the event for many years.
