Grand Marais city councilor and Cook County – Grand Marais Economic Development Authority (EDA) member Jan Sivertson will present information on a one percent proposed sales tax referendum at the September 30 Women’s Business Luncheon.
A one percent sales tax is being proposed to fund infrastructure costs for projects around the Cook County area. The projects include: improvements to the Cook County Community Center outdoor recreation area, Birch Grove outdoor recreation area, countywide broad band services, a public library addition in Grand Marais, expanded Cook County Community Center in Grand Marais and improvements to the Superior National golf course.
In order for the proposed sales tax to be implemented, it needs to pass a countywide voter referendum this fall. Sivertson will present information regarding the projects and the voter referendum process.
Jan Sivertson is the owner of Sivertson Art Gallery in Grand Marais and Duluth. Besides the art business, Jan has been an active community member serving on many boards including the first Grand Marais Art Colony board, the Duluth Art Institute, Duluth Waterfront Design Review Committee, Grand Marais Area tourism, Lutsen/Tofte Tourism and North House Folk School.
TheWBN luncheon is sponsored by Cook County Higher Education and the Northeast Entrepreneur Fund’s Women’s Business Network. All women interested in learning more about the 1% Sales Tax referendum are invited to attend the luncheon.
The presentation and lunch will be held on Wednesday, September 30 from 11:30am – 1:00 p.m. at the Pie Place Restaurant in Grand Marais. The cost for the luncheon and presentation is $12.
