Woman injured in snowmobile crash

Gunflint Trail First Responders and the Gunflint Ambulance were paged to Trail Center Lodge at 3:52 p.m. on Saturday, March 8 to care for the victim of a snowmobile accident. The caller reported an apparent head injury, but said the victim, Colleen Smith, 48, of Savage, Minnesota was conscious and breathing.

According to Cook County Law Enforcement, Smith was driving a 1998 Yamaha XTC500 on the snowmobile trail when she attempted to round a right hand curve. She was unable to maintain the corner and left the trail on the left side. The machine stopped abruptly in the deep snow and struck some downed timber, causing her to go over the sled.

Smith was transported by Gunflint Ambulance to Cook County North Shore Hospital, where she was treated and released.
