Woman, infant uninjured in pickup crash by Durfee Creek

A Grand Marais woman and her infant were uninjured in a single-vehicle accident about 10 miles north of Grand Marais near Durfee Creek at 4:14 p.m. on Wednesday, March 19, 2014.

Sierra Lanning, 20, was driving east when the 2001 Dodge Ram pickup left the roadway and ended up on its side on the lakeside of the highway near mile marker 115.

Lanning told the Minnesota State Patrol that she had been attempting to turn her cell phone off so she wouldn’t be distracted when she went off the road.

Lanning was wearing a seatbelt and the baby was in an appropriate car seat and neither appeared to be injured. Colvill Fire Department, Colvill First Responders, and Cook County Ambulance responded to the crash, but Lanning declined medical treatment.

The pickup suffered moderate damage and was towed from the scene by Cook County Towing.

No citations were issued, but the accident is under investigation.
