Most people associate all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) with warmer months and recreational riding. However, ATVs are also a great winter tool, as is evident by the number of ATVs that can be seen around the county, plowing sidewalks, driveways, around mailboxes and so on.
The Cook County ATV Club would like to remind winter ATVers to be safe. If you are using your ATV for snow removal, please follow these safety tips: . Dress appropriately! Warm clothes of course, but also put on something reflective so other vehicles can see you. . Lights on! Have your lights on day or night so others can see you. . Consider getting a flag for your machine

North Outdoor Center sell affordable and easy-to-install bright whip flags that greatly increase an ATV’s visibility. . Use mirrors! Not only are mirrors required under the Cook County ATVRoad Ordinance, but it is just much easier to be aware of your surroundings with them. . Never, ever, have a passenger on your machine while plowing. Even two-up machines, made for an additional passenger, are not safe in this circumstance. . Always assume that other vehicles don’t see you behind high snow banks and enter and leave the roadway accordingly.
We want everyone to stay safe so they get out and have some fun in all this snow!
