As is evident by the wildfire occurrences over the past several years, Cook County lies in a boreal forest ecosystem in which wildfire is present and has played a role for hundreds of years.
A public meeting to talk about wildfire risk and what property owners can do to minimize impacts will be held at 4 p.m. Aug. 16 at the Poplar Fire Hall. Members of the Forest Service, Cook County Firewise Committee, and Gunflint Volunteer Fire Department will be present to talk and answer questions. All private property owners are encouraged to attend.
