Thisis an answer to John LaHoud from McGregor about Chik Wauk Museum not being in the wilderness from the granddaughter of Cook County pioneer Charlie Boostrom. Maybe he should look up wilderness in the dictionary – “wild, rough
country, backwoods.”
If you open your eyes and look, you’re actually in the “wilderness” from Duluth to the Canadian border and beyond.
Commissioner Jim Johnson didn’t say it was in the Boundary Waters Canoe area, did he? No. Those of us who have grown up here and lived here our whole lives because we chose to live in the “wilderness” knew exactly what he was saying.
And thank goodness there is “wilderness” for us to enjoy because the BWCA is for the young and strong—not for the elderly, people with disabilities, anyone who isn’t strong enough to paddle or carry a canoe. TheBWCA has preserved a portion of the “wilderness” but it is only a small portion.
