I was initially one who didn’t think a YMCA could make it here in our small community. Now, I don’t know “Y” we wouldn’t want one here!
I much prefer to be active outdoors, but we all must agree, this has been a tough winter to do that. I’ve only been XC skiing three times because of the below zero temperatures and wind chills. Twice after skiing, I enjoyed use of the Y’s beautiful new hot tub and sauna.
I’m excited to be able to bike to work this summer and be able to shower at the Y before going to work.
Another plus for the Y: Our community’s children! What parent is going to make their kids go outside to play after school in the dark when temps are so low and they, the parents, are still at work? Isn’t participating in afterschool and weekend activities at the Y better than sitting at home in front of the TV or computer when the weather is inclement? Parents can rest assured that their children are in safe hands until they finish their workday.
The third plus is the school’s swim program. No more bussing youngsters to the old pool in the winter. And, the community now has a real swim team that had its first swim meet last weekend!
All I can say is I’m a Believer!
