Jon at Buck’s Hardware Hank reports that fishing this week has been a bit spotty with the rain and thunderstorms we’ve had. But despite the lousy fishing weather some are doing OK.
Walleyes are a little scarce, hitting more in the evening for most of the fishermen. Trout fishing has been decent too but perhaps one should be thinking smallies now. Poplar Lake was reporting some nice eater walleyes fishing from 8 to 15 feet with live rigs or slip bobbers tipped with leeches.
Hungry Jack also reported decent walleye fishing in the evenings about the same depths with leeches. Elbow Lake gave up a few in the 4- to 6-foot range, mostly slow trolling with leeches or crankbaits. Northerns were hitting too.
For trout fishermen, Kimball was doing fine for rainbows. You might have to put up with a bunch of rock bass but you’ll find yourself plenty of rainbows and maybe even a brownie or two. And if you’re searching for lake trout, try Sag or Greenwood lakes.
Tyson at the Beaver House reports good walleye fishing action on Devil Track in the evening using slip bobber and Beaver Flicks, float rigs with leech. Also good fishing in the evening on Elbow and Crescent lakes.
Rainbow trout have been good on Mink and Kimball lakes on a crawler, Beaver Flicks and floated off the bottom.
Smallmouth bass are biting good on Hungry Jack, Four, Aspen and Greenwood lakes. Brook trout on all area streams on single hook spinners and Beaver Flicks.
Lake trout are hitting on Sag and Greenwood lakes; lake trout and coho salmon on Lake Superior started to bite with the surface water temp around 50 degrees. Also some action casting off the river mouths with Little Cleos and Rooster Tails.
