Jon at Buck’s Hardware Hank files this week’s report…
McFarland Lake was decent this week if you avoided the rain. Try jigging with minnows or leeches in 6 to 12 feet of water. A slow drift with a live rig also seemed to work. East Bearskin did pretty well but the fish were a little deeper – 15 to 20 feet was the depth which people were trolling their Rapalas.
Northern Light Lake also started giving up a few walleyes. Plenty of water to travel the river so now might be a good time to get out there. Jig in 3 to 6 feet with minnows. Other species of fish to tackle would include northerns as they are still hitting. Hungry Jack’s northerns are a good place to start with a sucker minnow dropped down about 8 or 10 feet. Don’t forget about the walleyes either, jigging or live rigging with leeches in 6 to 15 feet of water. The smallmouth are going crazy there as well.
Rainbows in the standard local trout lakes such as Kimball, Esther and Trout have been producing as well. Most are sticking with crawlers from 8 to 15 feet. And don’t forget the lake trout as trolling with Rapalas and spoons is still effective. One can give it a shot in Daniels or Duncan Lakes as the action has been good.
Tyson at the Beaver House says there is good walleye fishing action on Devil Track in the evening using slip bobbers and Beaver Flicks or float rigs with minnows or leech; also on East and West Twin, Elbow and a few in Poplar Lake.
Pretty good lake trout action on North Lake with spoons in 25 feet or less, also on Moss and Daniels lakes. Rainbow trout have been good on Mink and Kimball lakes.
Smallmouth bass are biting on Two Island and Devil Track lakes. Northern are being caught on Elbow and Loon Lakes.
