Where are the fish biting?

Tyler Smith of Grand Marais caught this very nice lake trout on February 5 on Trout Lake. It took about 15 minutes to get the 14-pound lunker through the ice.

Jon at Buck’s Hardware Hank has this report:

A few decent reports were coming in this week. Lakers on Duncan and Daniels were in 40 to 55 feet. You know the routine…jigs and spoons with ciscoes or minnow pieces. Some on Greenwood were hitting in 45 to 60 feet. West Bearskin was showing a little action in 35 to 50 feet.

Splake action seemed a little more sporadic this week. Mink Lake was okay using waxies and heads of minnows in 12 to 17 feet. Leo Lake was giving up a few as well in 12 to 15 feet. Rainbows though will be more likely in this lake.

One more area to check out might be the Veggie lakes and maybe hit Carrot or Shoe for some brookies. Try using the old small spoons tipped with a waxie or minnow piece.
