Tyson at Beaver House has this report:

A 10-pound northern was caught on Devil Track Lake.

Smallmouth bass are biting good all over. A 6-pound, 14-ounce smallmouth was caught on a spin ‘n float and leech last weekend.

Rainbow trout are biting on Mink and Kimball on float rigs or Beaver Flicks and crawlers, crawler harnesses. Nice size ones on Trout Lake. Great fly fishing on Trestle Pine Lake.

Walleyes are biting on Devil Track in the evenings on leeches, slip bobber and Beaver Flicks. A 20-inch walleye was caught in Devil Track Lake. Walleyes are also biting in Two Island, Crescent, Caribou and Brule lakes in the BWCA.

On Lake Superior the bite is hot for salmon and lake trout. Trout and salmon are being caught casting off shore with Little Cleos, white, or pink Rooster Tails, and Castmasters. Great fishing out on the Big Lake for lake trout and salmon in 25 to 40 feet on flat line, and in 40 to 70 feet, and salmon close to the surface. Water surface temp has dropped to 41-44 degrees.

Little Braidy Smith has been at it again. He is pictured here with his biggest fish to date, a nice 6.5-pound lake trout caught in Horseshoe Bay in Hovland on July 30. Although it took Braidy awhile to land this lunker, he told his dad, Mike Smith of Grand Marais, that he is ready to catch something even bigger.

Blue gills are being caught in Elbow and Poplar lakes.

Jon at Buck’s Hardware Hank has returned from Hawaii, and says that being gone for a couple of weeks, he had to call a few places to find out where the fish were.

Devilfish reports a little action in the 12- to 18-foot range using jigs with minnows or leeches. Crescent was giving up a few using the same M.O.

Up on Sag, walleyes could be had a little deeper, 24 to 32 feet of water with jig and leech or minnow. Lakers were suspended at 50 feet or so in 70 to 80 feet of water, with spoons and pimples being the lures of choice.

Word on the Big Lake last week was they were long-lining them in about 20 feet of water but the temperature has changed significantly around here, so I’d head a bit deeper if I were you.

Rainbows are hitting on the old standbys: Kimball, Leo, Esther, all good lakes to go and hit. Bring your flies, crawlers and spinners and you should be OK.
