Jon at Buck’s Hardware Hank filed this report:
I have received a couple reports of some success, but on the whole more were disappointed than were pleased. People seem to be getting walleyes off their docks in the evening. That’s always nice, just toss out a leech on a bobber and wait for dinner.
Good evening reports from Seagull and Hungry Jack lakes. Saganaga is also reporting some decent action in the 20-foot range or so. I also understand the lake trout are hitting at 50 feet or so, jigging spoons.
Smallies are hittin’ so grab a pole and start casting spinners or Raps to the shoreline for some fun action. Hungry Jack, Devil Track, Poplar — all the bass lakes are hitting.
I have a couple more brook trout lakes to try out for those willing to trek a bit. Gadwell Lake, off of Pine Lake, requires a very steep climb, but the brookies are nice. However, it’s one of those
on-and-off lakes. One could spend a lot of time getting there and not catch a thing. Topper Lake is another one you could check out. It’s up near Mayhew Lake and I understand there are some decent fish.
Tyson at the Beaver House reports that Tofte Charters boated a 26-pound lake trout on Lake Superior. Brookies are biting in the area streams.
On Sag and Seagull, Little Gunflint, and Two Island lakes the walleyes are biting.
Smallmouth bass are hitting in most area lakes; rainbow trout are biting on flies and spinners in Trout Lake. On Temperance River a nice lake trout was caught in the mouth of the river casting.
Northerns are biting, and the best lure of choice is called the live target frog.
Finally, Tim at Holiday has heard the lake trout are biting on Sag, on a jig and cisco. But walleye fishing reports are slow, he said.
