Lake Trout season continues and according to Jon at Buck’s Hardware, Trout Lake is an ice fishing “shantytown.” He said rainbows are being caught just under the ice about eight feet down. Jon said lake trout were deeper and harder to find.
Tyson and Tim at Mike’s Holiday said lake trout and walleye are biting on Lake Saganaga in 45 feet of water. They said Gunflint Lake is also good for lake trout.
Another good spot has been Kimball Lake where the fish are also “just under the ice.” Jon recommends waxies. Leo Lake has also been pretty good, but a little deeper at 12 – 18 feet. Waxies have been the secret there as well.
Kemo Lake has been giving up some decent lake trout and splake, but Jon’s sources are not sharing the depths, so good luck!
Esther Lake in Hovland has been a good rainbow lake in 12 – 15 feet with waxies on Swedish Pimples. And for brook trout, try Loft Lake with waxies and small buckshot lures.
Tyson reminded anglers to watch out for slush on the smaller lakes.
Good luck everyone!
