Jon at Buck’s reports that the fishing is a little slow, especially for walleyes. However, Hungry Jack has reported some action in 18 to 25 feet of water in the flats using Swedish Pimples and jigs tipped with a fathead. Devilfish Lake was also reporting action at 15 to 22 feet using jigs and minnows.
Regarding lake trout inside the BWCA, those who went to Rose had decent luck, although they started deeper and ended up finding fish in the 22- to 28-foot range. They were using spoons tipped with a minnow. Daniels also reported some action in 17 to 25 feet, spoon or jig tipped with a minnow.
Jon said for those looking for some perch, Elbow is still producing some nice ones — chubs or waxies seem to be the bait ofochoice.d s
Tyson Cronberg at Holiday Station said the lake trout are biting on Daniels in the BWCA, but he’s heard no other reports.
Anglers are reminded that trout season outside the BWCA opens this Saturday, Jan. 15. "That is when the real fishing starts,” said Jon.
