Fishing is winding down as area sportsmen are spending more time in the woods than in water. Fishing for lake trout on Lake Superior and inland lakes is done, but anglers can still enjoy stream trout fishing until October 31.
Tyson from the Beaver House and Mike’s Holiday said Brule River has been a favorite spot. He has heard of a nice-sized steelhead caught at an area river, and the Chinooks should be starting soon. Tyson said there are a few “pinks” to be had, but they seem to be winding down.
Tyson said the walleye bite has really slowed down and Jon at Buck’s Hardware agrees, although they both said Lake Saganaga is the place to go for walleye right now. Jon said some walleye are being caught on Sag in about 50 feet with a jig and minnow.
Walleye and northern season runs until February 27, 2011, as does the season for smallmouth bass, but as catch and release only.
