Where are the fish biting?

Izabella Sparks, 6, of Grand Marais had a great day of fishing at an area lake, catching her first walleye. It was 29-inches! She and her dad, John Sparks, declined sharing where she caught it.

Also having a good day fishing was Parker Slanga, 14, of Grand Marais who caught a 19-pound, 37-inch lake trout on Lake Superior.

Tyson at the Beaver House in Grand Marais said walleyes are biting on Two Island, Crescent, Devil Track and Flower Lakes. He has heard that lake trout are biting well on Lake Superior. Anglers report that rainbow trout are biting on Kimball, Mink, Trestle Pine, and Ram lakes. Beaver House fishermen report that bass can be found on Two Island, Hungry Jack, Bearskin, Flour and Devil Track lakes. And Tyson said the hot spots for northern pike are Devil Track, Elbow, Loon and Northern Light lakes.

John at Buck’s Hardware reports that walleyes are biting on Lichen Lake in12 feet of water using jigs and minnows; on Crescent Lake in 22 feet of water using jigs and minnows or slip bobbers and leeches; on Gunflint Lake in 30 feet of water using jigs and minnows; Seagull Lake in 25 – 30 feet of water using jigs and minnows.

 

 

Lake trout are being caught on Greenwood Lake in 55 feet of water, suspended in 35 feet and on Daniels Lake using ciscoes off the bottom.

Rainbow trout have been caught on Esther Lake by slow trolling spoons such as Swedish pimples in 12-15 feet of water; on Mink Lake using night crawlers off the bottom; and on Kimball Lake using night crawler rigs and slow trolling or drifting in 15-18 feet of water in the middle.
