Where are the fish biting?





According to Jon at Buck’s Hardware, there is good news on the walleye front. Jon says the walleye bite is back with fish biting in depths from 16 to 24 feet. Walleye are biting on leeches and fathead chubs. Anglers have been having luck on rock piles with a slow drift or a slip bobber. Jon has heard that walleye are biting in Hungry Jack, Crescent, Two Island, Saganaga, and Pike. Smaller fish are biting in Poplar, Devilfish, or Deer Yard.

 

 

Tyson at the Beaver House said that walleyes are also biting in Seagull, Flour, and Cascade lakes.

Northerns are being caught in about 12 – 18 feet in weed beds. The most popular northern lakes right now are Northern Light Lake and Elbow.

The middle of August is rainbow trout time according to the fishermen checking in at Buck’s. Jon said they are hitting on crawlers in 15 – 25 feet. Mepps lures and Swedish pimples are the most successful baits. Anglers have been having good luck on Esther, Leo, Trestle Pine, Trout and Kimball lakes. Tyson said he has heard good reports for rainbow on Birch Lake, using crawlers off the bottom.

Lake trout have been caught in Greenwood, Duncan, West Bearskin, Seagull and Sag. And according to Tyson, the lake trout bite has picked up some on Lake Superior. Some salmon are also being caught.

And both Tyson at the Beaver House and Jon at Buck’s report that smallmouth bass are doing well. They are biting in Two Island, Devil Track, Hungry Jack, Poplar, Seagull and Devilfish lakes.
