Where are the fish biting?

There was no fish report from Buck’s Hardware this week, but that didn’t mean anglers were not having success.

Tyson at the Beaver House said smallmouth bass are still “pretty much biting everywhere.” Some local fishermen have also been having fun catching feisty little perch on area lakes.

Walleye are biting on Crescent, Devil Track, Two Island, Saganaga and Seagull lakes using beaver flicks and slip bobber rigs. Fishermen report good action on Devil Track, but small fish.

Northern pike fishing has been good on Devil Track, Loon, Two Island, Seagull and Saganaga lakes.

Lake trout are being caught on Greenwood Lake, Saganaga and Seagull lakes. Tyson has heard that lake trout fishing is good.

Salmon fishing on Lake Superior has slowed because of lower lake temperatures. The Big Lake has been in the 35-degree range.

Brad Ludlow of Lutsen had a great day of fishing on August 13—Friday the 13th. It was a lucky day for Brad, who caught this very nice 29 ½ inch, 9 ½ pound walleye on Lake Saganaga. Brad was fishing with guide Mike Berg of Seagull Creek Outfitters. He was fishing with bobbers and “jumbo leeches” in about 15 feet of water. The lunker was released.
