Fishermen have been sweating it out on area lakes and finding some reward for their efforts, according to Jon at Buck’s Hardware and Tyson at the Beaver House.
Tyson reports that walleye fishing has been “spotty” but anglers are having the best success using leeches with beaver flicks or spin floats. The lakes that have been giving up the best walleye are Crescent, Devil Track, Two Island, Hungry Jack, and Flour.
Jon said the best bet for walleyes is at the 10 – 20 foot depth with leeches. Anglers recommend fishing reefs and humps with a slip bobber.
Lake trout are biting on Lake Saganaga and Seagull Lake in 50 feet of water, suspended. A jig and minnow or cisco have been most effective. On Greenwood Lake there is good lake trout action in approximately 60 feet on a cisco and plain hook or jig. Gunflint is another good lake to try in the 50 – 60 foot depth with jig and minnow.
Lake Superior is still giving up some lake trout, but they are deep—at 120 – 180 feet. Anglers have been having

Both Jon and Tyson
report that smallmouth bass are biting pretty much everywhere. Tyson recommends using spinners and top water lures such as torpedoes and chug bugs. Jon recommends leeches or crawlers on slip bobbers in 15 feet or so. Lakes to try are Daniels, Saganaga, Seagull, Look and Hungry Jack.

Tyson reports that Kimball, Mink and Trout lakes have been good fishing for rainbow trout. Jon agrees and adds that he has heard good reports from fishermen who have tried Trestle Pine, Leo, and Esther lakes. Crawlers and spinners are the most
t successful bait in 12 – 20 feet
of water.

This cute little girl named Liz had a great day of fishing at an undisclosed lake with her parents and Vince Ekroot of Little Vince’s Guide Service. Vince didn’t get her full name or hometown—“I’m a fishing guide, not a reporter,” he said. And by the number of group shots with multiple fish he shared, he’s a good one.
