It’s summer and the fish are biting! Anglers have reported to the folks at Buck’s Hardware that fishing is good.
Walleye can be caught on Homer Lake in 12 – 15 feet of water by trolling Rapalas (watch out for the rocks!) and using leeches in 12 feet of water. On Deer Yard Lake there are a lot of small fish causing lots of action in 8 – 12 feet of water using leeches and slip bobbers. In Hungry Jack Lake, walleyes are hitting in 10 – 12 feet of water using leeches in the weed beds. Walleye are being caught on Seagull and Lake Saganaga in 12 – 14 feet of water using leeches—fish off the rock piles. Leeches have also been the bait of choice on Tom Lake with a slip bobber in 12 – 15 feet of water.
Lake Trout are being caught in 31 feet of water by slow trolling with spoons on Lake Saganaga and in 30 – 35 feet of water using jig and minnows or trolling spoons. On Duncan Lake, fishermen have been having success off the bottom using jig and minnow in 30 feet of water.
The best bait for rainbow trout last week was crawlers on the bottom—rainbow have been hitting on Leo Lake in 15 – 18 feet; on Moss Lake in 25 feet; and Mink Lake in 18 feet. Slow trolling is best on Mink Lake.
Northern pike have been hitting on sucker minnows in weed beds on Hungry Jack Lake in 8 – 15 feet of water and on Elbow Lake in 6 feet off the bottom. Loon Lake and Gunflint Lake have been good for northerns in 15 feet of water with trolling spoons.
Some very happy fishermen have caught king salmon in front of Grand Marais on Lake Superior in about 80 feet of water with trolling spoons.
