Although it rained off and on all week, the weather did not keep fishermen off area lakes.
Walleye have been biting on Lake Saganaga in 12 -1 5 feet of water with leeches and slip bobbers. They are also being found on Gunflint Lake in 10 – 12 feet of water with leeches and slip bobbers or jigs. On Cascade Lake, fish are hanging out in 15 feet of water using leeches or minnows. On Brule Lake, the fishing has been good in the evening in 12 – 15 feet of water using minnows or leeches with jigs. Finally, on Homer Lake, fishermen who were able to avoid the rocks found success trolling Rapalas slow or with leeches in 12 feet of water.
Lake trout have been hitting deeper—in Mayhew Lake in 25 – 30 feet of water using jig and minnow; on Clearwater in 30 feet of water (suspended at 20 feet) using jig and minnow or Swedish pimple; on Rose Lake in 40 feet of water, off the bottom using minnow and jig; and on Lake Saganaga in 50 – 55 feet of water (suspended in 30 feet) using jig and minnow.
Anglers have told John at Buck’s Hardware that they have been catching rainbow trout on Kimball Lake in 25 feet of water by drifting a night crawler. Leo Lake has also been good in 15 – 18 feet of water when crawlers are used off the bottom.
Musquash Lake has been the spot to catch splake. They are being caught in 20 feet of water using crawlers.
Dare Devil lures have been tempting northern pike on Loon Lake in 15 feet of water and on Flour Lake in 15 feet of water. The northerns on Flour Lake have also gone after suckers in 12 feet of water. On Hungry Jack Lake they are biting in 12 – 15 feet of water using sucker minnows. And Northern Light Lake has given up some northerns to folks trolling Rapalas around weed beds. Good fishing, if you can stand clearing all those weeds off your prop!
