Where are the fish biting?

Captain Kelly Shepard of North Shore Outdoors Lake Superior Charters called in his report from his cell phone while fishing on Lake Superior. Nice work if you can get it.

Kelly said nice numbers of lake trout are being caught in the 170-foot range on Lake Superior. The water temperature is now around 46F. One steelhead was caught in the 4.5 lb. range and some King Salmon are finally showing up.

Inland, Kelly reports the walleye bite is hot. Fish them with jigs, minnow or leeches in (about) 8 feet of water on all local lakes. Two he suggested are Cascade Lake and Northern Light Lake.

Tyson at the Beaver House said limits of walleyes are being caught on Devil

Track, Two Island, Elbow, Seagull, Gunflint, Sag and Crescent lakes. He suggests using Beaver Flick spoons and Beaver Flicks and leeches. A 31-inch walleye was caught on Ball Club Lake.

Rainbow trout can be caught on Leo, Mink, and Trout lakes using crawlers and Beaver Flicks, Little Cleo’s and floats with a crawler.

Lake trout are being caught at the mouths of the Cascade, Temperance and Poplar rivers using little Cleo’s, Crocodile spoons and Beaver Flick spoons.

For brook trout try Cascade, Brule and Temperance rivers. The speckled beauties can be caught on Beaver Flicks and crawlers and flies, if you fly fish.
