Memorial Day weekend brought sunshine and success to area anglers.
Fishermen are finding walleye on Lake Saganaga in 6 -10 feet of water around weed beds and reefs using a jig and minnow. There are also schools of small walleye in 55 – 60 feet of water.
On Hungry Jack Lake some nice fish have been caught in 9 – 12 feet of water around weed beds using a jig and minnow or trolling raps.
Walleyes on Crescent Lake have been found in shallow 6 -10 feet of water around weeds and rock piles using jig and minnow. They are just a little bit deeper on Devil Fish Lake in 10 – 12 feet of water around rocks using jig and minnow.
Fishermen seeking lake trout have been having good luck on all lakes. Hot spots on Sag Lake are on the 40-foot reefs, just under the surface using a jig and minnow around rock ledges. Anglers are also trolling shad raps. On Daniels Lake, lake trout are biting in 20 – 25 feet of water using jig and crawler. And there has been strong fishing on Trout Lake in 30 feet of water using jig and crawler or minnow.
Fly-fishing has been good on Trout Lake, Leo Lake, and Mink Lake. On Trout, rainbows have been caught in 20 feet of water using crawlers. On Leo, they are biting at 15 feet of water. The successful Leo Lake fishermen have been using a crawler off the bottom. And on Mink, anglers have been using spinners and crawlers.
Northern Pike have been biting shallow on Saganaga, Hungry Jack and Northern Light lakes. Fishermen have been using spoons in the weeds in about 10 feet of water.
Carrot Lake, one of the favorite “Vegetable Chain Lakes,” has been giving up brook trout in about 12 feet of water with crawlers or by fly rod. Loft Lake brook trout are at 15 – 18 feet and crawlers are the most successful bait.
Good luck, fishermen!
