By most accounts, the opening of fishing 2010 was slow. However, the poor fishing reports have been unanimously followed by the declaration that it was a great weekend to be out on the water!
A few fishermen have given John at Buck’s Hardware a report of where they found fish.
Lake trout have been caught at Daniels Lake in 20 feet of water using jig and cisco; in Clearwater Lake in 20 feet of water using jig and cisco; and in Trout Lake on the humps using jig and cisco.
For rainbow trout, Trout Lake is the hot spot, with fishermen using crawlers or fly fishing on top with flies.
Walleye fishing has been slow, even on an area favorite lake, Two Island. The few that were caught were in 10-12 feet of water by anglers using jig and chubs. Walleye have also been caught in Elbow Lake in 6-8 feet of water using leeches or chubs; in Devil Fish Lake 14-15’ using chubs and jig; in Caribou Lake in 10-12 feet of water using jig and minnow. The most successful fishing on Caribou has been in the evening. Some walleye have been caught on Poplar Lake in 8-10 feet of water using chubs or leeches using a plain hook.
