Where are the fish biting?

Captain Jerry Skarupa of Secret Lures said lake trout are scattered on the bottom from 60-120 feet deep. Jerry said there are very few salmon around.

Tyson at the Beaver House said walleyes are biting on Devil Track on chartreuse or pink Beaver Flicks at 6-7 feet in the evenings. Crescent Lake with a leech and slip bobber also Elbow, East Twin, Poplar, Ball Club, Brule in the BWCA and Two Island Lake are doing well.

On Devil Track one 6-pound northern was caught. They are also biting on Hungry Jack, Poplar, Flour and Bearskin lakes.

Smallmouth bass are biting great on Hungry Jack, Devil Track, Two Island, Duncan, Rose and Poplar and most other lakes on the surface with torpedoes, artificial crawfish and Beaver Flicks.

Lake trout are in the mouth of Cascade and Poplar River. Use Little Cleos, Krocodile and Rooster Tails. Out in Lake Superior 1-3 pound lake trout are being caught next to shore. Troll in 18- 20 feet of water off shore using a watermelon spoon or silver doctor spoon.

Brook trout and rainbows are seeing action in the streams on flies, Beaver Flicks, Mepp’s Spinners or plain hooks with a crawler. Mink, Kimball and Trout lakes are giving up 16- to 20-inch rainbows. Brookies are biting in streams like Kadunce, Temperance and Brule rivers.

Herring are biting on Greenwood Lake along with smallmouth bass.

Forrest at Hungry Jack Lodge said walleye fishing has slowed down on Hungry Jack Lake, but a 38-inch northern was caught and released off the dock.

Smallmouth bass are still biting. One person caught four nice bass in the 17-inch range. Groups are having success using artificial baits and leeches.

Lots of 13- to 16-inch rainbow trout are still being caught in Leo Lake using a small spinner or floating a night crawler off the bottom.
