Tyson at the Beaver House said someone caught a 28-inch walleye on Devil Track recently. Walleyes are biting on Devil Track on chartreuse or pink Beaver Flicks 8-14 feet deep in the evenings. Crescent Lake with a leech and slip bobber, also Elbow, East Twin, Poplar, Ball Club, Brule in the BWCA and Two Island Lake are also doing well.
Northerns are being caught on Devil Track, Hungry Jack, Poplar, Flour and Bearskin lakes.
Smallmouth bass are biting great on Hungry Jack, Devil Track, and Poplar Lake and most other lakes on the surface with torpedos, artificial crawfish and Beaver Flicks.
Lake trout are still being caught at the mouth of the Cascade and Poplar rivers using Little Cleos, Krocodile and Rooster Tails. Out in Lake Superior nice lake trout are being caught near shore. On the Big Lake Coho salmon are being caught. A 14-pound king salmon was caught on Superior last week out front of Grand Marais. Lake trout have also been caught off of Artist Point on a Little Cleo.
Brook trout and rainbow action is being seen in streams on flies, Beaver Flicks, Mepp’s Spinners or plain hooks with a crawler. At Mink, Kimball and Trout lakes, 16-18-inch rainbows are biting great off shore or in a boat using artificial lures and Beaver Flicks. Brookies are being caught in streams like Kadunce, Temperance and Brule rivers.
Forrest at Hungry Jack Lodge says groups are coming in with some nice walleye in the evening hours. Someone caught a 24-inch walleye off the dock.
Lots of smallmouth bass in the 19-inch range have been caught using artificial baits and leeches.
Rainbow trout are being caught in Leo Lake by fly fishermen.
Captain Jerry Skarupa aboard Secret Lures reports that the water temperature in Lake Superior is 55 degrees F “or better.”
Salmon can be caught in the top 50 feet while lake trout are scattered and on the lake bottom, he said.
