Tyson at the Beaver House in Grand Marais reports that walleye are “biting good on Devil Track, Two Island, Elbow and Crescent lakes on Beaver Flicks and Spin ‘n Glow rigs.”
He has also heard that smallmouth bass are “biting great” on most lakes on the surface.
Also, a nice northern was caught last week on Devil Track Lake by an angler fishing off a dock.
Barb at Heston’s Lodge on Gunflint Lake said guests were catching some walleye and bass there last week.
According to Forrest of Hungry Jack Lodge, walleyes are being caught at Hungry Jack—lots of nice ones and good numbers in shallow water, 10 feet or less using leeches. Small walleyes from 6-8 inches are being caught off the dock with jigs and spinners.
Smallmouth bass have been more active during the day using artificial lures, leeches and minnows.
Forrest reports that northerns are “hit and miss.” Some caught were in the 33- to 36-inch range.
Hungry Jack has also heard good reports from Portage Lake for brook trout and rainbows in Leo and Birch lakes.
