Where are the fish biting?

Sister and brother Becca and Doug Haugan of Orono, Minnesota, had a great day on the water with Joe Carlson of Joe’s Inland Fishing while their parents went golfing. Joe took the siblings out years ago when Becca was so small she doesn’t remember that trip. They caught these two bass in a “double,” their lines hitting at the same time right after arriving at their fishing spot. They also caught a nice 23-inch walleye.

Capt. Jerry Skarupa of Secret Lures Charters reports that lake surface temperatures are up to about 60 degrees. Lake trout fishing is good – bigger ones and lots of them at various depths. Salmon were around and are now scarce.

A local family that enjoyed inland fishing last week reports that the bass are biting on Flour Lake. Many fish were caught and released on Labor Day, Sept. 7.

Poplar Lake has also been a great lake for bass as one guest at Big Bear Lodge reported this week.

The News-Herald would love to let you know where the walleye are biting, but our sources are quiet. Anyone want to share their success stories? Email us at starnews@boreal.org or call 218-387-9100 and ask for Hal.
