Where are the fish biting?

Rod Carlson had been giving the fish a break this summer—until recently when he was talked into taking his boat out and going after lake trout on Lake Superior. Carlson and Steve Larsen each caught their limit, with Carlson netting this 17-pound beauty and Larsen taking home a 12-pound lake trout. “Fishing was great. We even threw back some fish,” Rod said of his 1½-hour fishing adventure.

Jon at Buck’s Hardware Hank files this week’s report:

So far, so good. The week ahead looks to be quite a nice one and taking advantage of it would only seem appropriate, so get on out there and fish.

Word on walleyes is they’re hitting on jigs tipped with minnows on the rock piles in 15 to 20 feet. We also got a few reports on people trolling deep with Rapalas…about 20 or 25 feet. Gunflint, Cascade, Saganaga and Seagull lakes were a few of the lakes where success could be had.

Also, lake trout were being trolled with spoons in about 20 feet of water in Greenwood, Mayhew and Loon lakes.

If I understand correctly, Kimball Lake is scheduled to be rehabilitated very soon, like next week, in order to rid the lake of the rock bass and perch which have pretty much taken over the lake. It is scheduled to be restocked in the spring of 2015. There’s not a lot of time left if you want to hit the lake for a few rainbows.
