Where are the fish biting?

Capt. Jerry Skarupa of Secret Lures Charters says the lake trout on Lake Superior are down about 50-160 feet. Few salmon are around. And Jerry’s quote – Harley cheats!

Jon at Buck’s Hardware Hank sends this week’s report:

Bear season is under way and Buck’s has registered quite a few of the animals this week. I haven’t heard of any extremely large ones taken yet.

Left: Dan and Ray Scurlock traveled all the way from Shreveport, Louisiana to go fishing in Cook County. Guided by Joe Carlson of Joe’s Inland Guide Service, 90-year-old Ray Scurlock caught this nice northern pike in an undisclosed Cook County lake. The big fish is 36 inches long and weighs 15 pounds. The men also caught some nice eater-sized walleyes and one smaller northern.

As far as the approach of grouse season, people are starting to get pumped up. Many have seen birds out there though a few reports of small birds, probably a second brood, have been noted. It should be a fairly decent season this year.

Walleye fishing has been sporadic but a few are nailing the tasty critters using primarily jigs tipped with chubs. Seagull, Two Island, Crescent, and Homer were a few lakes giving up a few fish.

Lakers seem to be suspended in 25 to 35 feet trolling spoons. Loon, Sag, Clearwater and Greenwood lakes are reportedly coughing up some fish.

For those of you looking for some rainbows, Trout, Leo and Trestle Pine lakes are a couple of places to try. A few splake were also hitting on Brule and Mink lakes.
