Tyson at the Beaver House said walleyes are biting well on Devil Track, Two Island, and Pike lakes. Also, there are walleye being caught at the mouth of Temperance River.

Smallmouth bass and northerns are hitting on most lakes.

Brook trout and rainbows are biting on Kadunce, Cascade, Poplar and Temperance rivers. Also Mink, Kimball and Trout lakes are good choices.

Lake Superior lake trout have started biting better along with a few salmon.

Capt. Jerry Skarupa of Secret Lures says lake trout are being caught from 140 to 180 feet deep.

Lake Superior water temps are around 50 degrees; 30 feet down the temp is 30 degrees!

There are a few suspended fish. A small number of salmon are being caught.

This week’s update, provided by Buck’s Hardware Hank:

With the conclusion of the Fisherman’s Picnic Big Fish Contest, the dust is continuing to settle from the close finishes in most categories. The beautiful weather resulted in fast and fun fishing for all.

The lake trout fishing has had decent action over the past week with a lot of anglers using small Rapalas, spoons, and jigging. In recent days, those fishing for lakers are doing well on Loon Lake.

The big walleye have been biting extremely well. The top three walleye in last weekend’s contest each weighed in at over 4 pounds. Leeches, crawlers and fathead chubs were the live bait of choice. The walleye have been hitting at the 16- to 20-foot range during the day. During the evening hours they are still coming in to less than 8 feet of water along weed edges. Ball Club Lake and Gunflint Lake have been producing nice walleye recently.

The northern bite has been phenomenal over the past week, resulting in our closest category of the Big Fish Contest. All of the top northern weighed over 11 pounds and were only separated by ounces. Trolling anything shiny is all it takes to get those northern biting!

This year the brook trout category was swept by “Dans.” The winning fish weighed 3 pounds, 10½ ounces. The brookies have been biting well on crawlers and flies over the past week no matter if you are fishing a stream or a lake.

With the fish biting so readily, get off your rear, grab a pole, some bait and get fishing.
