Where are the fish biting?

Buck’s Hardware Hank has this week’s round-up:

People have been asking me what is really active currently. I’d have to say your best bet is to go for elusive mosquito. They’re really biting right now and I’ve been told the best bait is exposed human flesh. Simply stand around for a few seconds and they’ll be seeking the bait in no time.

If you want to improve your luck, just breathe heavily. The added CO2 makes one’s flesh irresistible to the elusive mosquito. In fact, if you’re really lucky, you might run across a school of blackflies. I tell you there’s nothin’ tastier than a mouthful of blackflies, especially when gathered in the wild.

If it’s fish you’re seeking, walleyes are active in Sag. Some are still finding walleyes in the 8- to 15-foot range using minnows and leeches. Seagull Lake has similar action. Smallies are still biting in the weeds in 4 to 12 feet of water using plastics and real nightcrawlers.

Lake Superior action is picking up with people finding lakers and some salmon in the 120- to 150-foot range…of course one can always go deeper. Don’t forget the always-dependable trout lakes. Action in Leo, Trout, and Kemo has been decent. It’s a good time to head out because if the fish aren’t biting, I’m sure the ever-dependable mosquito will come through with flying colors (blood-red most likely).

Tyson at the Beaver House said large walleyes are biting on Sag and Seagull lakes.

Brook trout in the streams are biting, and so are the blackflies and mosquitoes!

Rainbow trout on Mink Lake are biting, and lake trout and some salmon are being caught on Lake Superior 70 feet down.
