Where are the fish biting?

This week’s report from Buck’s Hardware Hank:

Walleyes, bass, northerns, brookies and rainbows—all seemed very cooperative this past week. Bear hunting has begun and grouse season is approaching so it’s all coming together.

Walleyes were biting in Two Island, Devil Track and the Twin Lakes. Mostly a morning and evening bite but there’s still a few getting nailed midday. Try trolling in 12 to 18 feet or so using leech and crawler rigs. You might want to try Poplar or Homer lakes too.

Bass are everywhere. Hungry Jack, Devilfish, Poplar – they’re all giving up the bass. Lake Superior is still doing well. Both lakers and cohos are hitting the lines as people are using anything watermeloncolored. Apex 1 1/2-inch watermelons are flying out of the store right now.

For all you brook trout fishermen not afraid to crash some brush, I’m getting good word on the streams. I know I went home with a few in my creel…very tasty.

Capt. Jerry Skarupa of Secret Lures says salmon are still around in the top 80-foot range.

More lake trout are around at various depths. There are still some chinooks around.
