Jon at Buck’s Hardware Hank has this week’s report….
Hi-ho, we’re back at it this week. Yes indeed, all the lies formulated, calculated, annotated (okay maybe not), and gathered into this perfected column of information with which you the fisherman can then take and turn into not only peace of mind that one will have a great time on these suggested lakes, but also, without any doubt, whatsoever, produce more and bigger fish. Oh yeah, I’ve got this bridge to sell…
A very nice 10½-half pound lake trout showed itself here at the store the other day. Gunflint Lake was where he caught it. Now you can believe him or not but why not? Aahh…you’re all a bunch of cynics! He was fishing shallow (sorry, no depths revealed) and the fish was just under the ice. Overall action was “pretty tasty.” (I think that was the quote.)
Other lakes I’ve heard mentioned this week include Loon and Kemo. I guess the best way to find out is to pack up and go.
That’s about it this week as we here at Buck’s Hardware are going through a store reset which means the column may be sporadic for awhile.
Up at Trail Center Lodge where the Fishing Contest is in its final weeks, the battle for the biggest lake trout continues. Last week Ed Zlonis got bumped from the lead by Jeff Eliasen who brought in a 27-inch trout. But this week it was Jeff who was bumped as Chris Callender brought in a 31- inch lake trout. We’ll see if Chris can hold that lead until the end of the contest.
The other anglers in the lead at press time remain the same as last week. They are:
Brook trout
Gary Brumberg 17”
Splake
Twinkie 17”
Northern
Kristie Batz 29”
Walleye
Craig Schulte 27 ½”
Whitefish
Nathan Clay 29 ½”
Crappie
Gary Brumberg 11”
Rainbow Trout
Diane Wimmer 21 ½”
All legal winter species caught in inland lakes may be entered. The contest ends March 31, 2013, so get your entries in now!
