Where are the fish biting?

Jon of Buck’s Hardware Hank has this week’s report:

Hope everyone had a good weekend of fishing although I heard that the fishing was a bit slow. I’m sure the Derby was a rousing success. Congratulations to the winners.

As far as fishing goes, as I said it’s a bit slow. Some headed to the border lakes in search of walleyes with very mixed results. Sag was one area where some action could be found. Lake trout action to check out would include Moss, East Bearskin, Clearwater, Sag, and Kemo lakes. Most are jigging in the 25- to 40-foot range.

Rainbows in Leo, Trestle Pine, and Trout were being had with minimal success. But hey, why should that slow us down?

I’ve been hearing of a few people heading out for perch, though I’m not sure how well they did. Sounds like an interesting idea if you ask me.

The competition is heating up in the Trail Center Lodge Fishing Contest with some of the same names appearing—and being bumped off. At press time the anglers in the lead were:

Brook trout Gary Brumberg 17”
Lake trout Ed Zlonis 27”
Splake Twinkie 17”
Northern Kristie Batz 29”
Walleye Craig Schulte 27½”
Whitefish Nathan Clay 29½”
Crappie Gary Brumberg 11”
Rainbow Trout Jeff Holman 16¾”

All legal winter species caught in inland lakes may be entered. The contest ends March 31, 2013, so get your entries in now!
