Where are the fish biting?

Here is Jon’s report from Buck’s Hardware Hank:

There shouldn’t be any reason to not go fishing this week as the weather seems to be doing all it can to cooperate. At the very least one should hit the Trout Derby this Sunday up at Gunflint Lake. Sign-in is from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Prizes will be awarded.

If the Derby isn’t your cup of coffee, why not head to Clearwater or Greenwood lakes? One could, if they’re more interested in smaller lakes, head out to Kemo or Pine Mountain lakes.

For some brookies, Shoe and Carrot are fairly convenient and usually produce.

But wherever you head this week, you should make a little time and go to the Trout Derby on Gunflint Lake. That’s this coming Sunday, March 3.

The fishing competition continues at Trail Center Lodge. At press time the winning fishermen were:

Brook trout Gary Brumberg 17”
Lake trout Ed Zlonis 27”
Splake Twinkie 17”
Northern Ed Zlonis 27”
Walleye Craig Schulte 27 ½”
Whitefish Nathan Clay 29 ½”
Crappie Gary Brumberg 11”

All legal winter species caught in inland lakes may be entered. The contest ends March 31, 2013, so get your entries in now!
