John at Buck’s Hardware has heard from a number of lake trout fishermen who have had good luck on Seagull Lake in 50 feet of water in the 35 feet depth range using ciscoes and chubs and on Greenwood Lake in 70 feet of water fishing 50 feet down using chubs on tip-ups. Fishing has been a little slow on Gunflint Lake, but the fish being caught have been in 45-50 feet of water using spoons with flathead minnows.
Tim at Mike’s Holiday in Grand Marais has also heard that lake trout are biting on Seagull in 45 feet of water, as well as
a few walleye. Fishermen are using jig
and minnows.

whole ciscoes as bait.
Minnesota
Rainbow trout and a few brook trout have been caught on Esther Lake in 15 – 18 feet of water, using waxies on an ice fly. Kimball Lake has also given up some rainbow in 18 feet with waxies as bait. A few small brook trout have been caught at Birch Lake.
Splake have been caught in Musquash Lake in 22 feet of water using a jig and minnow.
The Trail Center Winter Fishing Contest continues and Rudy at Trail Center reports that some very nice fish have come in this week.

on February 10: a 13 ¾-inch brook trout;
Northern
2×2 & 2×4 ads Minnesota
a 13 ½-inch splake; and a 17-inch rainbow

trout. Also on February 10, John
Burnett brought in a 17½-inch rainbow trout.
Paddy Wagon (Pat McDonnell) entered a 23-inch lake trout on February 16.
And Billy Drury brought in the largest rainbow trout of the week on February 16, an 18½-incher.
The Trail Center contest continues until March 31 with first-second-and thirdplace prizes in all categories. Sarah at Trail Center said all fish count—walleye, northern, splake, lake trout, etc., so keep fishing!
